Frequently Asked Questions

Will using this service ruin my relationship with the contractor and stop me getting future work?+

If a contractor is unlawfully withholding your cash without a valid legal notice, they are already damaging the relationship and using your business as an interest-free bank. Our letters are highly professional, objective, and statutory. They simply state the law, removing the emotion from the dispute so you get paid what you are legally owed without acting like the 'bad guy'.

What's included in the Free Starter?+

A ready-to-send demand letter template pre-filled with your figures, plus a document checklist and the Construction Act Rights Guide. No payment required — just your name, email, and claim details.

What makes the Assisted Service different?+

We analyse your actual documents (payslips, spreadsheets) and draft a fully custom demand letter specific to your situation. You also receive a Subject Access Request (SAR) letter — a formal request under UK GDPR compelling the contractor to disclose all data they hold about you, including payment records, deductions, and internal correspondence. If the contractor still does not pay after the suspension notice, you can generate a Notice of Adjudication directly from your portal to formally refer the dispute under s.108. You also get a 1-hour consultation and email support.

What is a Subject Access Request (SAR) letter?+

A SAR is a formal legal request under Article 15 of the UK GDPR, compelling the contractor to provide all personal data they hold about you within 30 days. In a payment dispute this can uncover payment records, deduction schedules, internal notes, and correspondence that the contractor may not otherwise share. Failure to comply can be reported to the ICO. The Assisted and Adjudication Pack plans include a professionally drafted SAR letter addressed to your contractor.

What is the suspension notice?+

Assisted and Adjudication Pack plans include a formal Notice of Intention to Suspend Performance under s.112 of the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996. If the contractor does not pay within 7 days of the demand letter, you can serve this notice to suspend all works on site — it is not a breach of contract. The notice gives 7 days' warning before suspension takes effect, and you are entitled to recover any reasonable costs caused by the suspension. It is a powerful pressure tool that signals you are serious about escalation. Free tier users can upgrade to Assisted (£349) to unlock it.

What is the Adjudication Pack?+

Everything in the Assisted Service, plus the exact documents required to formally escalate your dispute to adjudication. We draft your Notice of Adjudication — the legal document that officially kicks off the process — and prepare your completed ANB (Adjudication Nominating Body) application package for the RICS, CIArb, or TECBAR, so you are not making costly mistakes on the paperwork. Our AI system also compiles your contract, invoices, and emails into a clean, indexed evidence bundle ready for submission. You also receive a 1-page Adjudication Strategy Guide with step-by-step instructions on how to serve the papers yourself. This tier gives you everything you need to escalate immediately and professionally — without the cost of full legal representation until you decide it is necessary.

Can I upgrade from Free to Assisted later?+

Yes. If the contractor does not pay after your demand letter, upgrade to Assisted (£349) directly from your client portal. This unlocks the full PDF demand letter, suspension notice under s.112, SAR letter, full document analysis, 1-hour consultation, and email support.

Do you offer refunds?+

If your letter has not yet been generated, contact us within 24 hours for a full refund. Once the letter is generated and sent, we are unable to offer refunds.

Is this legal advice?+

We provide document preparation services based on the Construction Act 1996. For formal legal advice, you should consult a solicitor. However, most subcontractor payment claims under the Construction Act do not require a solicitor.
